Given - Little to do apart from pick the ball out of the net. No blame for any of the goals. 6

Richards
- Probably the only defender to emerge with any real credit. Strong at all times. 6.5

Toure
- Lost Defoe for the second goal and looked distant from Onouha. 5.5

Onouha
- Solid at times but does not look comfortable on the left of the central partnership. 5.5

Sylvinho
- Won't be the last but struggled with the turn of pace of Lennon. Looked rusty. 5

Ireland

de Jong
- Had a good start but overrun as the Tottenham pressed their advantage. 6

Barry
- Struggled in the main and offered little going forward. 5.5

Robinho
- Had a key role tonight but offered nothing. 5

Adebayor
- Missed a good chance late on and didn't contribute a huge amount. 5.5

Subs:

Santa Cruz
- Looked fitter than on previous occasions but couldn't impose himself. 6

Liverpool player ratings

Given - Bounced back from midweek disappointment and no blame attached for either goal. Made a superb save early off Skrtel in the first half. 7

Zabaleta - Poor judgement in conceded a needless in a dangerous area that led to the first goal. Hasn't cemented the position as yet. 6

Toure - Withdrawn at half-time due to injury. Solid enough before then. 6

Lescott - Confidence appears to be growing. An impressive display and looks to be now settling into the side. 7

Bridge - Better than the Burnley debacle, but lacked the attacking purpose shown for the most part this season. 6

de Jong - Another consistent performance from an integral part of the side. Strong in the tackle (just ask Ryan Babel) and nullified Gerrard particularly in the first-half. Less reliant on him in the second half as we pressed more. 7.5

Barry - A slightly subdued performance, but in a more withdrawn role with the adjustment in formation. Withdrawn for Tevez on the hour. 6

Ireland - The formation allowed more licence for Ireland, something that was far more apparant in the second half when we opened up the play. A well taken goal and saw plenty of the ball in dangerous areas. Take note Mark Hughes. 8

Wright-Phillips - For the most part it was a frustrating performance. Moments of undoubted quality and he has the ability to spark the side, but can be wasteful in good areas. 7

Bellamy - Expected more up against Carragher, especially after an early booking. Showed flashes but too often out of the game. 6

Adebayor - An isolated figure in the first half as the cautious approach left him unable to link up. More into the game in the second-half and took his goal well. 6.5

Subs:

Onouha - First action of the season. Calm and composed in the main, but partly liable for the mix-up for Liverpool's equaliser. 6.5

Tevez - Came on at 1-0 down and was the catalyst for the come back. Showed the spark and energy that makes it difficult to leave him out. 7.5

Birmingham player ratings

Given - Match saving performance. Three superb saves and the penalty stop to 'win' the point. 8.5

Zabaleta - A strong performance, not a step out of place. Put more distance between him and Richards. 7

Kompany - Cool, calm and assured. Forged a nice partnership with Lescott in dealing with the lively front pair. 7.5

Lescott - A solid game. Didn't put a foot wrong and hopefully settling into the side. 6.5

Bridge - Really growing on me as a player. Defended well and constantly looking to get forward. 7

Wright-Phillips - Plenty of the ball and really took the game to Birmingham. As per the season so far, the end product was not to be seen. 6

de Jong
- Tenacious as ever and becoming a lynchpin of the side. Surprised he was withdrawn. 7

Barry - Really struggled to impose himself. Both here at Villa the crowd may have affected him. 5.5

Bellamy - Didn't reach the heights of previous weeks, but still looks a threat when he gets the ball. 6.5

Tevez - Again, full of life, energy and commitment. Couldn't quite find the end product in front of goal though. 7.5

Santa Cruz - Took plenty of steps back after a positive in midweek. Found himself isolated but was off the pace and second to everything. 5

Subs:

Ireland - Introduced too late and struggled to really impact. His return to the starting line up is imminent though. 6.5

Petrov - Barely made an impact when he came on but perhaps should have started. 6

Wigan player ratings

Given - Could have done better with the goal but redeemed himself with a fantastic block late on. 6.5

Zabaleta - First yellow was soft but the type of rash challenge we have seen before from him earned him red. 5.5

Bridge - Solid enough but perhaps hadn't fully recovered from the midweek injury. 6

Richards - Back in the middle and although lost out in the build up to the goal was solid enough. Will be back in at right-back next week. 6.5

Lescott - I though his best game for us yesterday. Took on more responsibility with Toure's absence and was a presence both in defence and going forward. 7.5

Wright-Phillips - The 4-4-2 suits him better and he showed good flashes yesterday. Still under pressure though. 6.5

Barry - I thought he was again superb. So much of his work goes largely unnoticed but his presence continues to be a key for us. Tired late on. 7.5

de Jong - Another strong, gritty performance doing the dirty work. Has to be careful with one or two of his challenges though. 7

Petrov - Another start, another goal. Hughes praised his effort and he is doing all he can to warrant a starting spot. 7.5

Adebayor - Worked hard again and got into good positions. Sacrificed following the sending off of Zabaleta. 7

Tevez - An excellent performance, full of energy and effort - particularly when we down to ten men. Looks to be one of the first names down on the team sheet. 7.5

Subs:

Kompany
- First appearance of the season and looked composed in the centre of defence. 6.5

Ireland
- A fleeting appearance and didn't get much opportunity to make an impact. 6

Santa Cruz
- No time for an impact. n/a

Aston Villa ratings

Given - A quiet evening all round with barely a save to make. 6

Zabaleta - Tough night against the impressive Young. Held firm for the most part though. 6.5

Bridge - Looks to be gaining in confidence with each game. His forward play particularly impressive. 7.5

Toure - Looks far from past it. As cool and calm on the ball as Keith Curle was. 8

Lescott - A solid performance against a difficult front pairing. 7

de Jong - Performed well again before being forced off. A bad tackle on Ashley Young though. 7

Wright-Phillips - In and out of the game. May well be set to spend some time on the bench. 6

Barry - Not as impressive as previous games. Perhaps the occasion weighed on his mind. 6.5

Bellamy - The star of the show. Getting better all the time and the spark for our attacks. 8.5

Adebayor - Proved his value to the side but his spell on the sidelines showed late on. 7.5

Tevez - Again full of energy and running, but not enough in the vital areas. 7

Subs:

Ireland - A welcome return to form and should find himself back in the line-up. 7.5

Santa Cruz - His long spell out is showing as he struggles to adapt back into the game. 5.5

West Ham player ratings

Given - A largely quiet night with one excellent tip over the bar. 7

Zabaleta - Offered quality when joining the attack and solid in defence. Justified his selection. 7.5

Toure - Looks completely at home and growing in stature with the captaincy. 8

Lescott - Struggled with the impressive Cole and one or two mistakes which could have been more costly. 6

Bridge - Solid and unassuming. Will enjoy a lengthy run in the side from Petrov. 6.5

Wright-Philiips - Looked to be the odd man out of the attacking players. One or two flashes but never really got a foothold in the game. 6

de Jong - Broke up any threat from West Ham and always onto the loose ball. Shown himself to be a vital component since his return to the side. 7.5

Barry - A lot of his work goes largely unnoticed but has shown himself to be a integral cog in the midfield trio. 7

Petrov - Played like he had a point to prove and delivered an exciting performance full of pace, threat and delivery. Scored one, made another and will be difficult to leave out. 8

Bellamy - Full of running, energy and pace in a more central role. His delivery from set pieces is proving to be a big plus. 7.5

Tevez - Scored twice, and could (should) have added a couple more. Brings team-mates into the game superbly but perhaps needs a more clincial finish. 7.5

Subs:

Santa Cruz - A quarter of an hour run out for his debut. Little chance to impress although had a half chance he may have done better with. 6.5

Johnson - No real time to make an impact but his return was a huge plus nonetheless. n/a

Arsenal player ratings

Given - Solid presence once again and made a couple of important saves. No chance with either of the goals. 6.5

Richards - Impressive both in defence and going forward. Linked well with Wright-Phillips and a constant threat. Best game of the season. 8

Toure - Defence qualities are better than first thought. Shut out Arsenal's front line and excellent distribution. 7

Lescott - A strong platform again with Toure. Slightly at fault for van Persie's goal, but atoned with the tackle for the go ahead goal. 6.5

Bridge - Impressive performance today. Carried the ball out of defence well and steady at the back. 7.5

de Jong - Fully justified his selection and was the fulcrum of the side today. A constant presence and consistently thwarted Arsenal's attempts to create. A must for the derby. 8.5

Ireland - Worked hard and often involved, but was not an attacking threat and struggled to impose himself. 6

Barry - Excellent alongside de Jong, and his influence on the side grows with each game. 7.5

Wright-Phillips - Had a real buzz about him today in a more attacking position. End product was not always there but an undoubted threat throughout. 7.5

Bellamy - The rating is as much for his defensive work as anything. Clearly followed Hughes's instructions to the letter and you can see why he is such a favourite. Nicely taken goal too. 8

Adebayor - At times was influenced by the occasion but when his mind was on the game he was again excellent. Strong on the ball, his run in the second half was a joy to see. Embroiled in a pair of controversial incidents he may come to regret however. 8

Sub:

Petrov - No real dangerous moments on the ball, but his presence on the wing allowed us to spread the play. 6.5

Crystal Palace player ratings

Given - More smart saves and another assured performance. Has not put a foot wrong since he signed. 7.5

Richards
- Struggled against the lively Moses after being booked early. 6

Toure
- The new captain had a strong all-round performance both defending and coming forward. 7

Lescott
- A solid debut. Some struggles but to be expected playing so soon after signing. A good partnership with Toure looks a matter of time. 6.5

Bridge
- Impressed with how he joins in the attack. Sound defensively too. 7

Wright-Phillips
- Saw plenty of the ball and looked lively and creative. Took his goal well. 7.5

Barry
- Not flashy or a headline grabber but his role and work shouldn't be underestimated. Man of the match. 8

Ireland
- Struggled to adjust to the new, deeper role. Some fleeting moments but few and far between. 6

Robinho
- Work rate not in question, but we are not getting the best from him (like Ireland) in a less attacking role. 6

Adebayor
- I do like the look of him and has some good touches and link up play. Quieter than his previous games though. 6.5

Tevez
- A real spark in the attacking third. Creative, works tirelessly and got himself on the scoresheet. Looks to be getting fitter. 7.5

Subs:

Neither de Jong or Bellamy were on long enough to impact.

Wolves player ratings

Given - Marvellous save in the first-half to keep it at 1-0. Grows in my estimation with each game. 7

Richards - Another steady game and useful forays forward. A positive start to the season and appears to be regaining form. 7

Toure - A solid day at the office, comfortable on the ball and links in well with the front men. Under the cosh second half. 6

Dunne - A typical Dunne performance; both good and bad. Strong and resilient but uncomfortable at times. Will not have welcomed the news about Lescott. 6

Bridge - Defended well and linked well with both Barry and Robinho when pressing forward. 7

Wright-Phillips - Best performance for some time. Positive and penetrative with the ball and got into some dangerous positions. 7

Barry - Another strong performance. Playing a more defensive role than expected but helped out at the back when the pressure was on. 8

Ireland - Some real incisive passing into the front line. The deeper role that isn't helping him join the attack though. 7

Robinho - Moments of quality but largely ineffective throughout. I can't help feel that he is being wasted so far wide. 6

Adebayor - Built on his Blackburn performance well. A nicely taken goal, holds the ball well, and, check this Arsenal fans, even tracked back to make a crucial tackle late on. 8

Tevez - Moved well across the line and linked up well with Adebayor, but ran out of steam late. 7

Subs:

Bellamy - Struggled after coming on and missed a great chance to make it 2-0. 5

de Jong - No time for any real impact. 6

Blackburn player ratings

Shay Given - Some solid saves under pressure but flapped at a couple of long balls. 6.5

Micah Richards - As impressive display as he has posted for some time. Justified his selection. 7

Kolo Toure - Brought composure to the back line and could be a key player. 7.5

Richard Dunne - Solid enough apart from one or two moments. The Lescott chase won't have been ended though. 6

Wayne Bridge
- A good start to the season from another maligned player from 2008/09. Also attacked well. 7

Gareth Barry - Pulled plenty of strings in midfield. His versatility could be vital this season. 7.5

Stephen Ireland - A little subdued at times in a less advanced role than usual. Still creative though and added a cool finish. 7

Shaun Wright-Phillips - Good all-round performance in both defence and attack. Clever ball for the opening goal. 7

Robinho - Isolated too often out wide. Lively once he moved inside but substituted for Tevez. 6

Craig Bellamy
- No surprise to see him in the side. Brought plenty of energy to the front line. 7

Emmanuel Adebayor - A superb finish but his all-round play and presence in attack led to an impressive debut. 8

Sub:

Carlos Tevez
- Injection of pace and energy once he came on late in the game. 6.5
