The jinx is ended. A semi-final awaits - and against United no less.

Our own lack of confidence ahead of the game was certainly shared by Arsenal fans, but we needn't have worried. Given some of our implosions at this stage of cup competitions in recent times a comfortable victory feels somewhat strange, but satisfying nonetheless.

Whilst Arsenal offered little threat, the vaunted talents of Ramsey, Wilshire and Vela - flashes aside - never fully materialised and it was a game that we held the upper hand in throughout. Scoreless at the break was always cause for concern given the attacking threat of the youthful Arsenal side, but we looked the more confident, purposeful and dangerous and once Carlos Tevez put us ahead early in the second half the game was as good as over.

Rather than bringing on a cautious or nervous air, the opening goal inspired us on further to play some of our most impressive football for some time. All three goals were excellent - Tevez rewarded for his industry, Wright-Phillips capping his most threatening performance since his return and Vladimir Weiss capping a neat team move to seal the win late on.

It was a strange, almost listless display from Arsenal - with plenty of murmurings after the game about Wenger - but take nothing away from the performance. As I mentioned, Wright-Phillips played his best game since returning to the club, Tevez and Bellamy supported Adebayor well, and Joleon Lescott impressed as the pick of the defenders to suggest he is now finding his feet.

Hopefully this can be the spark we need to move forward in the league as well with an important game against Chelsea at the weekend.

Tonight though was all about the cup and burying ghosts of cup competitions past.
