Leeds agree Delph fee with Villa

Aston Villa can confirm that a fee has been agreed with Leeds United for Fabian Delph.

The 19-year-old has made 53 appearances for the Elland Road side as well as representing England at under-19 and under-21 levels.

A Leeds United spokesman said the Yorkshire club: "Wishes to place on record our appreciation for the honourable manner in which Aston Villa has conducted their interest in the player.

"Leeds has resisted approaches from other FA Premier League clubs since agreeing terms with Aston Villa."

An interesting move, no doubt.

It was reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post this morning that Delph was expected to leave by the end of this week, yet given comments from Mark Hughes at the weekend it seemed we were favourites.

It is interesting wording talking of the 'honourable' way Villa have conducted negotiations, and that Leeds have frozen other clubs out of the picture rather than potentially (I'm supposing a little here) a higher bid.

vote it up!

Honour and integrity still exist at some Prem Clubs. Not many but most of the football supporting public know who they are.

Everton
Villa
Bolton
Sunderland

Can't think of many more!

If City were prepared to offer more than Villa, this very much looks like a classic cutting off of nose to spite face response from Leeds. Seems like there is a stigma attached to selling to us right now.
Then again, Leeds never were much of a club for making the right decisions, just ask Brian Clough.

This smacks of Ken Bates trying it on with City, asking for 10 million, take it or leave it. A blunt response comes back, so he sells to the first club to hit his target of 6 million - to buy back their training ground within the month. We ring up to outbid the 6, and the old rascal starts laughing away. Poor kid will be knackered, and possibly crocked, by January - Villa have a 10 man squad and the Europa League to cope with. Your loss.

MIGHT BE JUST A LITTLE HARD TO ASK AND HUGHES NEVER SAID A BID WAS MADE JUST THAT HE HAD MINTORED DELPH

The MON way in the past few years has always been a hush hush approach through formal rather than informal channels e.g. Paper talk or interviews about potential player x which is probably the proper way to go about things which us villa fans will brag about now albeit infuriating when we want to know whats going on!

Also probably helps to be chummy if i am correct in saying that Simon Grayson is an ex villa player and was a player under MON which probably assisted the relationship side of the sale

Your lack of understanding is not really surprising given the fact we've been in football's backwaters for five years, but I doubt whether Bates would turn down more money for Delph. He'll need to publish details of the fee to be able to leave ER in one piece on Saturday anyway. Then we'll all know. I'm told it was actually five million, all payable now with add-ons to reach eight. Hopefully unlike Ferdinand we won't have to sell our add on rights back to the scum for ten percent of what they would've been worth.

TTFN from god's country.
