Defensive outlook

After a quiet couple of days with most of the media focused on their season predictions and the like, transfer rumours and reports appear to be back in swing. And, with us supposedly leading the way (surprisingly).

The Guardian is reporting that we are set to tie up a deal for Matthew Upson from West Ham should we put in a bid of around £15 million:
Manchester City will encounter little resistance from West Ham United if they follow up their interest in Matthew Upson with a bid of around £15m...City are believed to be ready to pay £12m for him, with a further £3m in add-ons.
However, having 'balked' at this fee, The Independent suggests Sylvain Distin is the likely target:
Manchester City are ready to move to bring their former captain Sylvain Distin back to the club, as West Ham's demands for Matthew Upson's services are proving higher than the Premier League's big spenders are willing to pay.

But wait, The Mail expects a deal for Joleon Lescott to be tied up ahead of the new season:

Manchester City expect to have Joleon Lescott playing for them in time for the big kick-off on Saturday, taking Mark Hughes’ spending this summer past £100million.

City believe their final offer of £20m plus add-ons for the England defender will be accepted by Everton, who remain unhappy with their North West rivals.

Sportsmail believes the transfer will be completed in the next 36 hours.

What are the odds on landing none of them?
