Elano's thoughts

A nice interview in The Observer today with Elano, in which he mainly talks of his fond relationship with Robinho - something which is integral in helping Robinho settle in.

'There are times when I think I'm not useful any more,' Elano says. 'But behind all that there is a good feeling about the City supporters and I respect that a lot. I feel they love me and I enjoy being part of this club. I just feel sad sometimes because I know what I can do and I helped to build a lot of things last year. I was the main scorer and did good things, but today I can say I changed my way of playing to serve the team. I want to be useful, but sometimes I feel left on the side.

'I will never change my behaviour towards my friends and I'm not saying bad things about the manager. He has the right to do whatever he wants. Yet it leaves me sad because I have my own targets and I'd like the manager to force me to do things because I'm the type who has the capacity to do many things. Learning that Mourinho mentioned my name, that leaves me very happy. It gives me a lot of tranquillity knowing that top people think highly of me.'

I have posted previously about Elano being the odd man out this season, something which I expected more of - although he has had to accept a deeper role in order to be accomodated into the side of late.

There is nothing to suggest Elano is anything other than settled at the club, but with the arrival of Robinho and emergnce of Ireland this season, his frustration is evident and the chances of seeing him scale the heights of the first half of last season are not looking that likely at the moment.

vote it up!

Don't be too hard on the boy Elano, he has been great this year and is one of the reasons that Ireland has also done well.

I'd hate to see him pushed to the sidelines, he's too good for that. We need a ball winner to allow him the freedom of the park - some of the statistics regarding his pass accuracy and involvement have proved his worth. Basically, Elano plays well - so do City. There's nothing wrong with being upset if you're subbed - I wish some of the others cared as much as he does.

I think Elano quite often this season has been a big player for us. I sit up in the 3rd tier so can see the formations, runs etc (sorry if that sounds dead pretentious!) anyway... Watching Elano playing a little deeper than normal, he has been creating the space for SWP, Ireland and Robinho to work in - it's been great to watch, but to be fair, that's all at home!

I'm very worried about Hughes management, tactics etc though and I'm not convinced that he will last till Christmas given the current form.

We shall see though.

bravo ! derry hit the nail on the head..

elano has orchestrated much of what has been good at city past few games...hughes is wrong to drop him, i will be bitter and angry if we were to sell him. And would question hughes ability!

there was talk of us being linked with cambiasso...well elano is, if not better the same type of player!

I agree that elano has been quietly good for us this year but i expect alot more he is doin simple things very poorly along with about oh lets say 10 others the passing is absolutely atrotious we are giving the ball away way way to much and hughes cant be blamed for things like that pros shud do better. I think hughes dunt help at the same time though theres big things like playin micah at left back and then little things like why we always waste set pieces i wish they would stop playin short balls and get it in the box well they have chance surely they work on that in training theres loads more that cud be list,we need a ball playin centre half so dunne can concentrate on defending which he is good at and i would put richards right back and kompany needs someone in there with him maybe appiah for time being he is available and a good player. ps i know second time iv asked but article on this supposed micheal ball fallout with hughes wud be good need to know wat happened.

Elano is sheer magic when allowed a cruising role. MH doesn't seem to like him though. Which seems petty, as the whole team (and the supporters) are suffering away match dross just so he can prove a point.

Same goes for the left-back position. We all know there's a problem there. Ball is limited when pushing forward. Garrido is limited when falling back. We signed a left back during the close season in case we'd all forgotten, but rather than play him MH is playing a natural right back in the position, and totally wrecking his confidence at the same time. (Micah obviously isn't even happy at Left Centre Back).

For God's sake MH - play one of the U18s rather than forcing a player into a role he REALLY isn't happy in. Or carry on cutting off your nose to spite your face...
