Johnson pens new deal

The 20-year-old England Under-21 international midfielder has ended months of speculation that he may be set to leave the club.
No real shock here, as despite the summer speculation linking him with a move away from the club I doubt Johnson ever considered a move away from the club, and it does seem that whenever contract talks are not swiftly concluded it immediately means a player is set to depart.
All nonesense of course, and I would have expected an earlier announcement but for the recent takeover which no doubt took precedence with the top brass.
It is surprising to me that Johnson's star appears to have waned in the eyes of some City fans towards the end of last seasom, with the 'overrated' tag being applied no sooner than he was annointed as the new Colin Bell.
With a plethora of attacking players in our squad now, for me Johnson has a vital role to play as the bridge between the attacking players and the more defensive minded midfielders (one or two of Kompany, Hamman and Gelson)

Just on the topic of the Johnson story, ok. Who was actually saying that Michael Johnson was over rated??? The same fans that used to unbelievably argue for Goater to play ahead of Anelka and who also lambast Ireland,no doubt.
Johnson is the best midfield prospect(under 23) in this country if you take away fabregas. Get use to him making the odd mistake,and then with some patience and and say three years,we as city fans will reap the whirlwind of his mega talent. The same thesis applies to the sublime Sturridge.
but will MJ get the chance to shine in the crowded foreign City midfield? Imagine who will come in to the team in January if the rumours are true... will MJ even be 3rd or 4th choice CM then?

Your first question:
I don't think there will be such a thing as a 'best' midfield. Looking at the players we have there will be plenty of rotation given the amount of games we have and also I suspect the formation - likely to change when Petrov returns.
Your second question:
I'm intrigued as to who will come in during the January window. Plenty of expectation of course but clubs are usually reluctant to sell mid-season, as they are involved in the thick of league and European campaigns.
Inevitably most of the names linked are strikers or attacking midfielders - the more 'glamour' positions as opposed to defensive ones, but I wouldn't be surprised (see my above comments) if we don't add a host of names during January, with most of the additions coming in the summer.
