Liverpool 1 City 0

The show of support for Sven from the stands has dominated the headlines from yesterday's game and glossed over what appeared to be a fairly insipid performance, despite spells where we had displayed some neat passages of play and passing moves.

Whilst Sven has the backing of the overwhelming majority of fans (not to mention the press and those in the game), there is an overwhelming air of inevitably about the situation and the season really can't come quickly enough to bring matters to a close before off-field issues begin to turn into a circus.

It is often remarked that one of Sven's biggest accomplishments from this season, was the way in which he assembled a capable squad that challenged at the top end of the table despite arriving at the club so late in the day.

I cannot see any other outcome other than the club and Sven parting ways, so for the sake of all at the club, the decision needs to made sooner rather than later.

Match reports

UNDERFIRE British Prime Minister Gordon Brown can take some small comfort from the thought that there is someone even more unpopular than him in the north of England.

If Thaksin Shinawatra and the current PM were head-to- head in a ballot in parts of Manchester this morning, it is likely that no one would bother turning out to vote. >>MEN

Sven-Göran Eriksson last night reflected on a remarkable show of support by Manchester City’s fans at Anfield before conceding that he does not expect it to make any difference. >>times.co.uk

He may betray the body language of a condemned man walking quietly to his fate, but Sven-Goran Eriksson can rest assured that his supporters at Manchester City will make their point loudly to club owner Thaksin Shinawatra that those favouring a change of manager are in a minority of one. >>telegraph.co.uk

Sven-Goran Eriksson offered a staunch defence of his reign as Manchester City's manager last night, insisting the guaranteed top-nine finish represented a fine return from his first campaign at the club. Yet the Swede suggested he still expects to be sacked by the owner Thaksin Shinawatra once the season is over. >>guardian.co.uk

IF Manchester City exist for any reason at all, it is surely to prove the old adage that no matter how bad things are there is always someone worse off than yourself. >>icliverpool.co.uk

vote it up!
