Summer spending starts
Thaksin Shinawatra last week insisted that Manchester City need more midfielders but today his club strengthened its strikeforce by agreeing a £20m deal for Brazilian forward Jô, guardian.co.uk understands.

No official word from the club as yet on this, but it has begun to be reported around most of the major media outlets and would seem to suggest talk of Sven departing in the summer can be banished once and for all.
He has been linked with us previously (along with most strikers around the world) but again fits the bill of most recent purchases by being a young talent with plenty of upside.
Whilst some strikers - Dickov, Samaras and Mpenza will be on the way out come the end of the season we will still be left with plenty of talent in attack and given Benjani's impressive performance yesterday, could point to us playing with two up front come the start of next season.

am somewhat surprised at the choice of JO and with the additional departures of Bianchi /Corradi would feelthat an experienced European striker like Huntelaar would have been suitable.Striker force for next season(probable)Benjani/Boijnov/Vassel/Sturridge /Evans...Jo.
Also feel that SGE will sign an experienced EPL/or Championship player this time round.
Sven wants them young, and a 21yr old with 10 european goals (including 2 against inter) in 12 appearances will do just fine. We already have experience in Benjani and Vassel and I think he may be looking to play 2 up front next season. An experienced Championship!?! player is definately not what we need to drive us forward. All we need now is a right winger, midfield enforcer and a good quality left back, get spending Sven.
I have yet to find anyone that wants Sven to get the boot. The addition of Jo would be great news, if we had had a 20 goal man ( Santa Cruz springs to mind ) this season we would be top 5, no question. City's problem this season was that we started TOO WELL if that is possible. We all knew at some point the wheels would come off, they had to. But, for a 1st season with a new squad, what a great season it's been. Bring on season 2 !
I'm loving Samaras's comments. He's found his niche in the third division!
Think we've been linked with every striker in Europe, but we have at least five serious contenders on the books already. And yet we are a 4-5-1 team. Don't know, can't help, heads gone.

ood that we're doing our business early if it's true. Often with the transfer window you can lose out on some of your targets and are forced to go for second choices or get into a price war.
Jo - it's a cool name. Club shop will save a few pounds on printing!!
