Vassell bid rejected

Manchester City can confirm that they have received an offer
from Besiktas for Darius Vassell, which has been rejected by the Club.
The
player is part of the 22 man squad currently on the pre-season tour of
Sweden. -

All very brief stuff, with no indication of whether the reason is a financial one or whether Vassell is seen as a key part of the squad for the forthcoming season.

Personally, I would say it is more to do with (despite recent arrivals) the squad still appearing thin as opposed to Vassell being one of the first names on the team sheet, but perhaps also that our new financial position means we don't necessarily have to consider every bid that comes our way.

Stories suggested Eriksson was not overly impressed with Vassell's contribution against Doncaster and it seems that like much of last season, any chance he does get will again be out wide as opposed to through the middle.

vote it up!

I think Darius (who can only score against Villa) needs some serious head work. Last three seasons he's done the business against them, but has promised much but delivered little otherwise. Get a shrink on the job - hypnotise him into thinking that every game is against Villa. Why not? He was our only forward with pace at all last season, but his one on ones with goalkeepers just made you turn away. That's psychological, not lack of talent. We need his pace.
