Fact or fiction?

One thing that came out at the end of the transfer window was an apparant attempt by City to take Shaun Wright-Phillips on loan from Chelsea, less than six months after his transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Stuart Pearce stated an attempt was made, but was turned down by Chelsea, who quickly hit back and denied an approach had ever been made by City (or any other side).

Was this an attempted PR stunt by City to try and gloss over the general lack of transfer activity and the Barton transfer request, or a denial by Chelsea to try and dismiss any speculation linking SWP with a move away from the club?

I don't know, but you'd have a tough job believing either side.

vote it up!

Chelsea routinely deny everything these days - even when it's no skin off their nose.

I think the offer was made with tongue firmly in cheek - maybe Chelsea didn't consider it serious...

I know who I'd believe!

I think Pearce described it as a "cheeky phonecall" rather than a formal offer.

I can't see why SWP didn't go for a loan move himself. On form, he's not going to Germany, he simply doesn't have the games.

I hope Barton fires his agent. He was full of remorse on Sport on Five tonight.
